← UA Today About

Privacy & Terms

UA Today lists what is happening on campus. If you sign in, it also remembers your class times so it can show you your own day. This page says exactly what that means.

Not affiliated with the University

UA Today is an independent student project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to The University of Alabama.

"The University of Alabama", "Alabama", the Script A, and Crimson Flame are marks owned by the University. They are referred to here only to describe what this site is about, which is nominative use. No claim of ownership or endorsement is made or implied.

If the University asks for a change to the name, the styling, or anything else on this site, the change gets made.

The intention is to ask. If this turns out to be useful to students, the plan is to take it to University Programs and Strategic Communications and ask whether there should be an official version, or whether they would prefer it changed. Until and unless that happens, it is unofficial and this page says so.

What is stored

If you never sign in, nothing about you is stored. No account, no cookie that identifies you, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers. The event listing is identical for everyone.

If you sign in with your @crimson.ua.edu Microsoft account, one row is created:

WhatWhy
An opaque account identifier from Microsoft So the site knows the setup is yours. It is not your email and not your name
Your @crimson.ua.edu address So you can be shown which account you are signed into, and so you can delete it
Your preferences: chosen categories, saved events, class times The entire point of signing in
When the row was created and last changedHousekeeping

What is deliberately not stored

Your class schedule

A class schedule says where a named person is at a given hour of the week, which makes it the most sensitive thing here. It is stored because the site is not much use without it. It is never shown to anyone but you, never included in any public response, and never shared with anyone.

Who it is shared with

Nobody. It is not sold, rented, traded, or handed to advertisers, analytics companies, or data brokers.

Two companies necessarily touch it because they run the machinery: Vercel hosts the site, and Neon runs the database. Microsoft handles the sign-in itself. That is the complete list.

If law enforcement produced a valid legal order, compliance would be required. That has not happened and there is very little here to hand over.

Deleting your account

There is a delete button in the settings panel, and it does what it says: the row is removed with a DELETE, not flagged as deleted. There is no archive copy and no backup of that table to reconcile against.

Once deleted it is gone, and it cannot be recovered. Signing in again creates a fresh empty row.

Cookies

Two, both strictly necessary, neither used for tracking:

Your theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage and never leaves your device.

Where the events come from

Every event is fetched at request time from public sources: the University's own events calendar, MySource, the athletics fixture list, published campus-ministry calendars, and Open-Meteo for weather. UA Today does not create events and cannot correct them.

Times and places can be wrong. Events get cancelled, moved, and edited after this site has read them, and some ministry entries are maintained by hand and may be stale. Check with the organiser before relying on anything here. This site is offered as is, with no warranty, and is not responsible for a trip made to an event that moved.

Contact

UA Today is built and run by Elijah Purcell, a first-year student at the University. One person, not a company, which is why the answer below is an email address rather than a support portal.

Questions, corrections, a missing event, or a deletion request that the button did not handle: (205) 462-7839 or elijahpurcell@gmail.com.

If you are the University and want something changed, the same address reaches a human who will act on it.
